Knut Åsdam

Works in Public Spaces Index

Knut Åsdam has utilised various formal strategies for his works in public spaces, -such as glass fiber sculpture, radio play, graffitti, and a webradio event/exhibiton -engaging also other artists, writers and musicians. In common for the diverse works is an urgency in the approach to place and an approach to a large audience in a democratic attitude in the relation to how a place is defined from use and audience.

What is primarily driving Åsdam's enquiry to a new work is an close analysis of the place or context and its social, spatial and political dynamics. With the newer work like Recombinant Place/Cloaked Mirror Body, Åsdam uses sculptural elements to activate or redesignate a public area and its signification rather than center the whole piece in the sculptural material itself, -what is just as important here is the utilised and social park landscape that is engaged in the work and the dynamic that that area brings into play day and night.
